Fighting DABSAC - adopt a single person for the Holidays

In an effort to combat DABSAC (Depression About Being Single At Christmas), I am encouraging all of you listeners and readers to reach out to at least 3 single people during the holidays.   It can be a phone call, email, or even a text message.  Being single during the holidays can be a bitch, but knowing that you have friends out there who are thinking of you can do wonders.

And all of you married/attached people - don’t forget what it was like for you when you were single.  And you single people…reach out to others.  It’s a lot better to wallow in misery with others. :)

Take care, and have a great Holiday!

Lucky at Groceries…maybe that is why i am unlucky in love?

Congratulations to me - I am TIME magazine’s Person of the Year, well, all of us who contributed content to the world…

And we are so ready for it. We’re ready to balance our diet of predigested news with raw feeds from Baghdad and Boston and Beijing. You can learn more about how Americans live just by looking at the backgrounds of YouTube videos—those rumpled bedrooms and toy-strewn basement rec rooms—than you could from 1,000 hours of network television.

And we didn’t just watch, we also worked. Like crazy. We made Facebook profiles and Second Life avatars and reviewed books at Amazon and recorded podcasts. We blogged about our candidates losing and wrote songs about getting dumped. We camcordered bombing runs and built open-source software.

Busy with calendars

Was going do a show last night, but suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to make my parent’s dog calendar, which they give to relatives.  They have an adorable Shih-Tzu.  You can see the calendar (and purchase one for yourself), here.

1st snowfall of the year

We were supposed to get 10 inches - got about 5 in the city.  The ‘burbs did get all 10. Check out the pictures in my gallery.

It was 63 degrees all week. Then we got all this.  ::sigh::

World AIDS Day, 2006: 25 Years of AIDS, 25 Million Reasons to Take Action

278.jpgFrom The Huffington Post

By Susan Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.A. and Jennifer X. Cai*

This June marked the 25th anniversary of the discovery of HIV/AIDS, although for all intents and purposes, the brief mention of five cases of rare pneumonia in young homosexual men in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report could hardly be called a discovery then, as the disease it documented had no name, no treatment, and provided no hint at the worldwide devastation the illness would cause in the next quarter century.

Since that fateful report on the 5th of June, 1981, HIV/AIDS has claimed the lives of over 25 million people worldwide. Read the rest of this entry »
